The origin and the popularity of energy drinks are linked primarily to Asia, but it is interesting that the most popular drinks such as Coca-Cola and Pepsi were called energy drinks at their outset (originally: energy booster). The year of 1916, when Coca-Cola was forced to reduce the percentage of caffeine in its formula, is considered the end of the first “era” of energy drinks.
